New Self, New World
Recovering Our Senses in The Twenty-First Century

New Self, New World challenges the primary story of what it means to be human – a story that leads us to live in our heads, absorbed in our own anxieties. Called a “profound and original masterpiece” in the foreword by Andrew Harvey, renowned mystical scholar and founder of the Institute for Sacred Activism, New Self, New World shows how the patterns of thinking we inherit from our culture divide us not only from the body, but from the world itself. As a result, we inhabit a shattered reality, and take our sense of personal isolation to be a normal state. Drawing from diverse sources and inspiration, as well as from his experiences in Japan, Italy, India and Iran, Shepherd shows how we can move beyond those patterns by opening ourselves to the interplay between the two poles of our natural intelligence: the one in the head and the one in the body. Each chapter concludes with a contemplative exercise to help readers increase their self-awareness and connect with their deeper intelligence.
