Naturally there's hope: safety and effectiveness of complementary medicine for the treatment of depressive illness.
Depressive illness is common, debilitating, and impacts multiple realms of an individuals life. Conventional treatment strategies are associated with stigma of medication use and a concerning list of adverse effects. Complementary medicine, focused on diet and lifestyle- based treatment strategies, offers a safe and effective treatment alternative. Such strategies are often capable of stabilizing depressive illness on their own, or are able to increase the effectiveness of conventional medications when used in combination. The presentation will review a selection of safe and effective complementary treatment strategies for the management of depression, bipolar disorder, and ADHD.
